biowearables:

“Hush, just look pretty.”

Here we are on the one-year-anniversary of Dragon Age Inquisition, and I think this blog needs some Cullen in it. I thought it would be an interesting challenge to try and make a garment that combined Cullen’s surcoat and collar with the fabric underneath he’s got wrapped around his armor. Big slouchy sweaters seem to be in, so I settled on a wrap sweater with cocoon sleeves, to get the wrap AND the drape in the same garment. I knit the collar with Drop Stitch and two strands of yarn of different weights to get the the multi-colored look of the strange furry/feather? collar thing. And on the back, the Templar Sword is done in cables using techniques I picked up from Melissa Leapman in her book Continuous Cables. Cullen may have turned his back on the Templar Order (so it is literally on the back of the sweater, heh.) but I think he’ll always carry it with him.

I knit the sweater to fit me, so I’d consider it appropriate for a tall woman (I’m 5′8″) who is sort of on the Medium/Large cusp. It’s such a shapeless thing that you can probably wear it as an XL if you knit the tight black part of the sleeve with more stitches or larger gauge needles.

If you’re a Small or XS you can probably go down 2-3 needle sizes to make the whole thing smaller and shorter. I wish I could offer more specific guidance for making other sizes, but this is my first sweater design. 😉 It may also be my last, this was definitely a hassle.
