Today’s Fenhawke Week theme is “Hope” and yesterday’s question of the day asked about our favorite fanworks. This sticker combines both themes for me. It’s one of several I’ve bought over the past year to decorate my plotty notebook. The way Fenris looks up at the hawk is such an image of hope that he finds in friendship and romance with Hawke, it makes this one of my favorite Fenhawke artworks. I love the minimalist style too – so simple and iconic.

DA2 au where Varania doesn’t look like a last minute NPC and looks believably related to Fenris and ISN’T SHOVED TO THE SIDE AFTER DANARIUS AND SHE GETS EXPLORED AS A CHARACTER AND HER STRUGGLE AS AN EXSLAVE AND SHE GETS TO EXPLAIN WHY FREEDOM WAS SO HARD AND HOW SHE DEALT WITH HER MOTHERS DEATH AND SUDDENLY FINDING HERSELF ALL ALONE IN TEVINTER!!
MAYBE LET HER EXPLAIN WHY!!! SHE WENT BACK TO DANARIUS!!!! AND STOP VILLIFYING HER!!!!!!!!!!!
i just like his silhouette

Prompted for Fenhawke Week by @beautifultoastdream
A tale in three parts (there might end up being a fourth, actually, we’ll see how part three goes) to the tune of Juvenal’s quote: quis custodiet ipsos custodes? Who shall guard the guardians themselves?
Each part corresponds to one of the Fenhawke Week daily themes, since I fell behind on them after Wednesday’s post.
Quis Custodiet is set in my Hawkquisition AU, post-Warriors Such As. Hawke and Fenris, along with their children and Metis, have returned to Kirkwall to support Viscount Varric. Their second child is around three years old at this point, and Malcolm is around five. As a sort of Champion Emerita, Hawke’s primary focus now is raising that family, but she and Fenris both do occasionally take on odd jobs the way they used to, just to make ends meet before the Deep Roads and even during her Champion days. One – or two – such odd jobs lead to the beginning of our story. It is probably not a story to take too seriously…
This is Part Two of this little more-than-a-drabble; Part One is here!
Pars Secunda: Murphy’s Law (Friday’s theme: Everything that can go wrong, does…)
He hadn’t meant to fall asleep in her arms. That wasn’t
part of her plan either, judging from how she suddenly jerked awake, sitting up
on the narrow cot onto which they’d both managed to fit only by cleverly
layering various body parts. In the heat of the moment, being tangled up with
her had seemed perfectly acceptable, but he questioned their judgment now, as her
elbow jabbed him in the jaw, bringing him painfully awake. “Hawke!” he
“Someone’s coming,” she whispered. “Did you hear –?”
He listened. Unmistakable, the sound of footsteps, far off in the
marquis’ cellars but drawing dangerously nearer. Silently they both scrambled
for clothing and armor, strewn about the cell only a few hours before.
“Well, this may call for a slight readjustment of the plan.
Andraste’s ass,” Hawke swore as she stumbled against him in her efforts to
wriggle into her armor. “Which, by the way, can’t have been anywhere near as
nice as yours,” she added in a whisper, leaning in to kiss him quickly when he
caught and balanced her.
“The Chantry probably frowns on such blasphemy,” he said, the
warning less earnest than the grin with which he reluctantly released her so he
could fasten on the last of his armor and pick up his sword, just in
time before the guard meant to take the next shift walked around the corner. He
didn’t recognize the man, but his thoughts were recognizable enough from the
way his eyebrows shot up at the sight of Fenris in the cell with the prisoner.
Oh, I do like this! I’m so glad you decided to accept my prompt. ^_^
I’m willing to bet this kind of thing happens to Hawke and Fenris more than they’ll EVER admit.
Also, I liked the implication that Grampa Metis is just calmly watching the kids while his son and daughter-in-law take shady jobs and commit espionage. Best. Babysitter. Ever.
*grins as she continues typing chapter 3 in which Metis realizes the parents of his grandchildren are too late getting home…*
Definitely best babysitter ever. 🙂 I’m so glad you’re enjoying the drabble-that-grew-into-a-crazy-chaptered-tale! Even though I said not to take this one too seriously, I’m starting to accept it as canon myself so…yeah, this kind of thing totally happens to them all the time, I’m sure of it. (I mean you can just tell from the resigned “oh here we go again” in Fenris’ tone when he first sees Hawke in that cell…)
