Quis Custodiet

Loving the Latin prompts! Fenhawke, Quis custodiet ipsos custodes, please?

Also, is there any chance of you adding to the prompt list for those? I know it’s a bit cliche, but I think alea jacta est belongs on there, and though it’s not technically classical Fenris always makes me think of fiat justitia, ruat caelum.

So I got a bit behind on Fenhawke week prompts this week, being busy at work and also with curating everyone’s contributions in the @fenhawkearchive queue. However I think I’ve finally figured out what I want to do with this excellent prompt! In fact I had about three different ideas for it and couldn’t settle on one till I ended up sort of combining at least two of them. So I’m working on a multi-chapter story now that, if it goes as planned (and it may very well not…), will cover three of this week’s prompts:

  • Thursday – Kinky! (well, not very, since I’m writing it, but you can…fill in the blanks for what happens between chapters, hm? 🙂 )
  • Friday – Murphy’s Law (yep, things are not going to go as planned…even if they do go as I am planning! ha!)
  • Saturday – Ragged Band of Misfits (Metis and the Hawke children get involved!)

I did also add your Sententiae suggestions to a third Sententiae Latinae prompts post, if anyone wants to pick a prompt from that for me! Sorry that filling these prompts is taking me so long, but I haven’t forgotten about any of them! Some may just appear during the Fenhawke Week Afterparty instead of this actual week…

@fourth-age asked: 11 & 13 for Amantes Sunt Amentes

Thank you for the questions! (Full list here for anyone who wants to ask!)

  • 11:What do you like best about this fic?

I like the outsider’s perspective I used here, with the Wardens bemused and confused by the very giddy Fenhawke reunion in the middle of their march to Weisshaupt. (I also like that I was able to tie this prompt in to that first chapter of To Remain At Your Side, because that chapter started out as a standalone story before I went adding to it, basically a headcanon I had been mulling over ever since Lisbet Hawke showed up alone at Skyhold to my great objection in DA:I. But when I continued that story I basically skipped over the rest of the Weisshaupt journey and sent Hawke and Fenris back to Skyhold for adventures, and I sometimes regret not doing more with them in between. So this was a nice glimpse of the in between. And it’s ridiculously fluffy in the way that is guaranteed to make me smile when I reread it.

  • 13:What music did you listen to, if any, to get in the mood for writing this story? Or if you didn’t listen to anything, what do you think readers should listen to to accompany us while reading?

Oh goodness! I rarely actually listen to music while writing. (While lesson planning or grading, yes sometimes, because the music helps with the tedium. But while writing fiction it tends to distract me from getting in the flow of the story…and about the only time I really put music on nowadays is while driving, actually.) So, I don’t really have a recommendation for this story specifically, but Fenris’ Theme is still my favorite of the DA soundtracks. 🙂 It’s not nearly fluffy enough for this story though, I suspect. Maybe we need to create a happy-light-and-fluffy version of it for such stories! Soon as I finish learning to play it (have been working out the music by ear on my flute now and then when bored) perhaps I will…
